I know Server Intellect has vps that are managed for about the same price. My boy has a vps with them now for around 8 months without issues.

Wow, $50 a month, you could just about buy a regular pc, and use it as a server in your home.

I think that you should be able to find something for $20 a month, and maybe a little less. Anyone charging more for that service won't be around for very long.

VPS are a great way to go. I started with shared hosting and eventually graduated to a VPS. It does give you much more control over what you can do with your server. I use Windows\IIS for my sites because most of them are written in ASP.NET though some are wordpress sites.

I needed custom written ISAPI modules for one of my sites and shared hosting does not allow such a thing. VPS gives me complete control of the server by giving me admin access (root in linux).

I used a company called SolarVPS (www.SolarVPS.com) for my server. Never heard of them but tok a chance and it paid off. Now I just recently upgraded again to a dedicated server from Solar.

Things have ben very smooth with them and they are very quick with support usually. I definitely recommend thatn you check it out... and they are definitely under your price range.

Check out my sites too :)

I'm assuming you mean "virtual private server" by "VPS". You can also search for the term "reseller account" -- I have one such account with hostdime.com, but I honestly can't recommend them wholeheartedly. Still, if you're not doing anything to dramatic scripting wise (I do, on occasion), they can probably handle what you need for $20 a month. I'd also check out 1and1.com -- I have a friend who uses them and has never complained. Then again, he's not a script monkey, either. :-)

At any rate, you should be able to get by quite productively on far less than $50. Hope this helps.
