Finding the Right Ad Companies
Network June 26th, 2007I have been rather lax when it has come to what ad companies I use on my sites. I throw auction ads even though they make me no money. I throw adsense up even though they make me no money. I throw kontera up even though they make me no money. Why? Why do I bother putting these ads up when they make me absolutely no money? Everyday I write on my two blogs and yet I make no money. I begin to wonder sometimes why. Is my placement wrong? Does my content suck so bad that no one is actually coming here? Excuse the rant, there is a point to this post, I promise.
I guess my problem is that I put so much work into my sites and yet they show such little return. Perhaps it is just blogs in general, but then I look at John Chow and he shows that you can make money. Now, I am not so much frustrated with this site. I never intended on making much from it. I suppose my irritation comes in from my site about making money in college. Everyday I write for that site and it does become difficult thinking up things to write about, and yet there is no money. And that leads me to think about something…
Am I using the wrong ad companies? Now, I doubt adsense is the wrong ad company because, well, everyone loves adsense. But, is Auction Ads the wrong one for that particular type of site? Perhaps I need to try and focus on getting more traffic somehow; yet, how do I do that? Am I using the right companies or should I be doing something else? I know that I want to sign up for text-link-ads once that site gets to a PR4 and hopefully it’ll send some money my way, but I just wonder why I write all these articles when there is not a single penny to be made. Perhaps it’s just a bad night (I do have those from time to time), but it can be very discouraging when there is not a single penny made. Ah well…I am making money none the less and that is what matters. Sorry for the rant, but every once in a while, they’re good.
It takes a lot out of me to write these blog posts. Buy me a beer to cool me off!

Ok Jacob,
My thoughts on this… no effense, but I want to give you some tips
to get more readers and more subscribers !!
You are talking to much about yourself and what you are doing. Ok, talking about your websites is a good thing. Tell us what you did with it and stuff.. that is info people want to read.
Take a look at your last 5 posts.
- Finding the right ad companies
This title looks promosing, probably you found something new. but no, you only talk about that you dont make any money.. hmm.. not very interesting for others that dont know you i think.
- Some Reorganisation
This post is good. You are telling what you did with your sites and stuff.. but the title could be better.. A catching one as “Bronze Links is now Sold !” or something other catchy.
- My return
I think this is not a good post for new visitors to think lets stay here and let subscribe.
- A night off
mm.. if I didn’t know you, I would not start reading….
- Got a Job
Same as above…. Unless it was a job in the internet world, but that has to be in the title than…
You have to focus on things that people are wanting to read. They want info. Talking about your websites is good. I do that to..
But I barely talk about my private life. Other people have zero interest in that.
Try to talk about SEO, link building, some of the techniques you are using.. talk about the news in the internet biz and stuff…
If you do this one week…. that means 7 good posts.. I am sure you will have 20 rss subscribers at least…
No offense Jacob, I am writing this because I care about you and I want you to be more successful.
This is probably the longest comment I ever written. Hope you learn something from it

Nomar those are all good points. However, I feel that Jacob needs to pick a direction with his blog. If his goal is to make money, then he needs to get rid of the personal posts and add more juicy tips/advice that aspiring readers can use.
But this is his blog, and maybe he likes to post about things in his personal life - such as a night off, or got a job. If you do this though, you run the risk of not making a lot of money.
My blog is the same way. I do some personal posts and some business posts, I just don’t count no it as being a source of income. The only money I make from my blog comes from sponsored links.

That is true David !!
But I get the intention that he wants to make money, it is called from zero to med
that requires lot of money hehe.
Yes, I also think you need to pick a direction.
Best of luck Jacob, Ill talk to you on MSN

No, no…See, if you read my blog, you’d notice these sentences: “Now, I am not so much frustrated with this site. I never intended on making much from it. I suppose my irritation comes in from my site about making money in college.” It’s about Dorm Earning. I never mention my personal life there, except when I throw little “how I have done it” into my posts. This blog, I don’t care if I don’t make a penny. I throw the ads up with the hopes that perhaps I will make a penny :-p, but I don’t intend on making anything. It’s more along the lines of Dorm Earning. For Zero to Med, I don’t care if I make zilch. It’s all about Dorm Earning. Sorry you misunderstood that.
