A Night Off

Personal Life No Comments »

I don’t usually take days off or nights off, but every once in a while, you need one. I’m going to be going to the beach for the day tomorrow, but we’re leaving tonight, hence me writing my post so much earlier. I think that everyone needs a day off from time to time, you know? It gives people some time to just catch their breath and get things under control. So, that’s what I’ll be doing. I am bringing a book to read and my notebook to catch up on some planning for websites.

Although I am taking the night, today marks the completion (if all went according to plan) of my newest site. I will not mention it until I have marketed it a bit because it’ll be boring to look at until it is marketed. However, I think that a lot of people will like the idea. If you like sports and you love women, well, this will be the site for you. Until tomorrow, have a great night and take a breather if you need it!

Got a Job

Personal Life 3 Comments »

If you remember my post two days prior to school ending, I said how I needed to get a job once school was over. I sort of slacked off and didn’t get a job right when I should have. I wanted to just relax, enjoy myself. Well, I won’t make that mistake again next year. I’ll be applying to places right when school is over, if not the week before it is over so I can get my interview the week after school is over and start working the week after that. Now, to much glee for my Mother, I actually did get a job. She asks if I am happy and I say I am, but I don’t know.

I’ll be working in the Deli at Shop Rite. It’s a grocery store in the Tri-State (New York, Connecticut, New Jersey) area. Now, I don’t really mind working in the Deli, it’s just that I worry that all of this working for the “man” will thus limit my ability to work for myself. Either way, it’s only a job for like a month and a half. Although they expect me to stay on for a long while, I know that I cannot, not when school starts. So, I will have to quit to go back to school. However, at eight bucks an hour, it really is a great thing and I can appreciate the many hours I do work. But, it won’t slow me down from working online. If anything, it might motivate me. But who knows? We’ll have to wait and see how it goes working at a job…I’ve never had a real one. *gulp*

Dreamweaver Overload

Well, I stepped up like I said I would and I got to work on learning how to use dreamweaver. Let me tell you, I am having an overload. My brain is killing me because of all this man’s talking. My Mom had a video tutorial, so I am using that to better help me learn it. I figure if someone is lecturing to me, I might have a better chance of really understanding the program than if I just read the book. So, I have been listening to him and just learning the different functions and my head already hurts. I have not even learned yet how to get started on creating the actual websites and my head already hurts. Maybe if I break it up into days…But, I would love to know how to create the site so that I can get to work in the next few days. Ah well…It’ll take longer.

However, there is a good thing to learn about this overload. It’s not to try and cram so much information all at once. They say when studying, you should try and take it piece by piece. Study each night for thirty minutes rather than the night before a test where you study for four hours. You’re likely to remember more if you study each night than if you study the night before. Either way, I am definitely excited to get dreamweaver under my belt. I’ve never actually gotten this serious about learning it before and I know that once I start, it’ll be hard to stop. The next step will be SEO. But, that’s another story for another time. I’d write more, but I am anxious to get back to Dreamweaver, so hopefully in a few days, we’ll have some websites, huh?

Music I Listen to When I Work

Personal Life No Comments »

You know, I really had no idea what I was going to write about when I sat down at my laptop tonight to write my blog post. My foot was tapping along to the song that I was listening to, my head was looking around, looking at the picture of my beautiful girlfriend and all of this, but I could not figure out what I was going to write about. And suddenly, it popped into my head. I could write about the music that I listen to! I could write about the music that helps me get more of my work done. And I suddenly started this article.

I use an assortment of songs to help me along. I use a little swing music, a little classic rock, a little spanish rock (Carlos Santana) and then some blues sounding stuff. The truth is, if there is anything that helps me get better with my work, it has got to be this music. Sure, I sometimes stop to sing along with the song (although I have not sang professionally in a year, so I am out of shape), I really find that the music helps me get more of my work done. If you are interested in seeing what songs I listen to, please click here.

I have found that having music really helps me get my work done and I am able to roll with the flow if you know what I mean. For some, though, music is a complete distraction. For others, like me, though, it makes work possible and allows me to go from having nothing done to having a lot of things done. Who knows? Maybe you’ll find a song on my play list that really gets you working, who knows? All I know is that for me, music is what works perfectly. And I got to say, the music I have is a really good choice for me.

Do More than You Learn

Personal Life 5 Comments »

I have to say one thing that I am at fault for: I read more and than I do. I learn more than I do. Learning is an amazing thing; unfortunately, it is not enough. If I want to get anywhere, I need to do more than just learn. That is what differentiates a good earner and a bad earner. A bad earner will say what he is going to do, but won’t do it. A good earner will do it and then talk about doing it once he has finished it. Or, let me say, she or he. Anyone can earn on the net, so there shouldn’t be genders.

So, I have decided that I am going to do and not just learn. I am not going to say anymore that “I plan on…” If something is not getting done, I am going to step up and do it. That RPG is not getting done like I planned. I am going to step up and get it done. I will get it done and I will fund it and I will make it work. If someone wants to work with me (my friends for example) they can, but I am going to WORK it. No more of this “I plan on doing this…” All I plan on doing is doing. There is no more saying I am going to do something and that’s it. Now it needs to be done. And that’s my vow…Because I cannot sit by and watching all these great ideas I have disappear. And that’s that.

My Day – A Link Bait Technique

Personal Life 4 Comments »

I am on a train coming home from New York City right now and I suddenly thought to myself: my days are pretty random. And as I was thinking about the randomness of my days, I suddenly thought up a way to get a little link baiting going on. While it might not work, I thought that it would prove to be sort of interesting. So, how exactly does this work and how can you benefit from it?

The way it works is simple:

1. You write up a little paragraph about what you are doing before you start this post. It could be checking your e-mail or something like that.
2. In that post, you mention the blog that you found this link bait method from and just give them a link back.
3. You write about what your day is usually like. What sorts of work do you do? You can mention personal life or just keep it strictly business, that doesn’t matter. Just describe your day and how it unfolds.
4. You compile the list as below with a link to the blogs of the people already on the site.
5. You put up three new people with the question: “What’s your day like?”

So, how does my day start…Since I am on summer vacation, I don’t ever have a time to wake up. I like to get up at a decent hour naturally so that I can work; however, if the previous night was long, well, that doesn’t work. The first thing that is on the agenda is about ten minutes checking my e-mail as well as my stats. I’ll spend some time just making sure things look alright and if they are not alright, trying to figure out what happened. These first ten or fifteen minutes is a lot of trouble shooting. Why did this site not perform as well? That’s a big question.

Once I finish with the trouble shooting, I check out my sites and look for comments. If there are comments, I reply to them. If there are new links to my blogs via the technorati feed, I look at them. I like to know who is linking to me. I spend about five minutes looking at mybloglog and if I find a blog that is interesting (which I have numerous times) I spend about ten minutes on that particular blog. I make sure to run to my blog roll everyday to see how my friends are doing.

The next part of the day is cruising around digitalpoint. Since my new task is to build up my post count on there so that I can sell my signature links (I realized that it’d be good extra income per month), I have been posting a lot on there recently. I think I was the first to post about the agloco toolbar coming out, so that was definitely something I was glad about. I look for any sites that might be for sale, but I am either way too picky or the sites are just downright shitty, so I don’t buy them.

I spend a lot of time in my day reading other blogs, which I know that I shouldn’t because I could be working harder on my sites. But, I just love to read and see what other people are doing and see how they are expanding. I do post on my science forum often with the hopes of snagging some more attention. At the moment, it is a constant battle trying to expand that site, but it’ll work.

The final thing that I do in the day is write my blog posts. Contrary to what other people do with posting their blog posts in the afternoons or before lunch time, I do it late at night, right before midnight. I do this so that it is available for the next morning. I know some people that read blogs in the morning while drinking their coffee before work. My mentality is that if I can nab them and get them to read, I am good. My other mentality is that I know that a lot of people in Europe read blogs, so I want to try and get them to see my updated content a lot as well. It just works out that way.

My day is stress free which is nice, but I have a feeling that I would be making more money if my day wasn’t as stress free. I think that I need to spend less time on the other blogs and more time on my own. I could easily update my blogs twice a day if I really sat down and worked on them. But who knows? But this is my day. I am making decent money and I know that as time goes on, I will make even more money. One can only hope, right?

My Top Five Blogs

Personal Life 3 Comments »

Thanks to Hannes Johnson, I get to now express my top five blogs. Basically, these two blogs are the ones that I read the most and that I check often enough. I am surprised that some of them are my favorite because it is only recently that I did find them. However, they are good blogs and because of that, I read them often. Hell, I can find myself checking them three or four times a day, hoping they’ll post more than just ONCE. Ah well…Here are my top five blogs in no particular order:

1. David Lithman - He’s the reason I started this blog, so I check it quite a bit.
2. Bob Buskirk - I found this blog from Lithman’s site and the first thing that I actually thought was, “Hm…Preppy boys can make money.” But, from reading his stuff, I really have to say I’ve acquired a deep respect for him. Nice job, Bob!
3. Jon Waraas - I found his blog from Lithman as well and I had to say that it was really cool that he was able to get his house at such a young age. I hope one day I can be in the same place.
4. King Nomar - Ramon is one of my best friends when it comes to internet marketing. We bounce ideas back and forth, so I look at his blog often hoping to see his success continue to grow.
5. Andreas Bard - Andreas is my newest favorite read. Something about his blog makes everything seem personal and I like that. I go there often looking to see updates.

These are my top five favorite reads. What are your top five favorite reads? I tag these five blogs to post their top five as well. Even if you are not mentioned in my top five, feel free to post what your top five are. Who knows? Maybe you’ll get mentioned a couple of times too!

What Gives You Motivation

Personal Life 3 Comments »

When you wake up in the morning and you sit down at your computer (laptop in my case) to do your morning work, how do you do it? What I mean by that is how do you actually do the work? How do you tell yourself that you need to do the work and that it’ll pay off in the end? I ask this because I find myself wondering from time to time if it is all really worth it. Is it worth writing content every single day on this blog? Should I continue to do it or is there something else I could be doing to potentially make money for me? What gives you the motivation that you need to go from not posting every day to ensuring that you have a post every single day on your blog?

My way is pretty simple. I look at my computer screen and then I look at my friend’s blogs and I look at what they’re doing and what they’re saying and I just nod my head, respecting them for their ability to turn their words to money. And that gives me motivation. The ability for me to get my voice heard is more than enough compensation for the writing that I do on this blog. Sure, if I were to make loads of money like others do on their blog, I’d really be happy. But, people come here and they read what I have to say every single day. People come and come to read what I have to say because whatever it is that I say interests them. I am not sure why, but it interests them.

My motivation is the people that read my blog. Their willingness to read my writing and comment on it is motivation enough for me to keep posting on my blog. And while I make little money on my more information based blog, Dorm Earning, I know that the information I learn can definitely help someone else when they are making their site. I’ve run forums and I’ve run blogs and I’ve run content sites and I’ve run arcades, so I have a general understanding of how to get them growing. I’ve never had much success, so I won’t say I am an expert, but I know what I am doing. The fact people come and read my blogs is my motivation to post every single day. What about you, though? What’s your motivation?

Two More Days

Personal Life 5 Comments »

When I started this blog, it was about three months into my college education and let me tell you, I was panicking. College is, downright, one hundred percent, a bitch. It’s tough as all hell and demands so much out of you. The only reason why I am not making $200 a day or more on the internet is because of college. Am I complaining? Nope. It’s just, it’s very tiring and it’s very time consuming. But! I want to be a doctor, so that’s that. However, there is hope. Tonight is Wednesday night. Tomorrow morning, I have my biology final. And Friday afternoon, I have my Chemistry final. And then I am done! I am done until August 22nd!

All summer, I will be doing two things. The first is working at some job because my Mother insists I get a job. I guess since the internet is not making enough, I need to go elsewhere. However, that doesn’t mean that I won’t be working online. What it does mean is that I might have a little more money to invest in growth of my sites. Who knows? What I know is this…I intend on getting a few sites made and potentially flipped, I intend on creating a directory (probably) and I intend on learning HTML so I can make my own sites. Let’s hope these next two days go by fast! Oh one can hope…

The Real Jacob Cohen-Donnelly

Personal Life 6 Comments »

I got the idea from Bob and John to do this. I’m actually studying Math right now, trying my very best to get ready for this final on Tuesday, but the urge came over me to try this out and maybe get a little thing going so we can get to know more about the other bloggers that we read about. So, let’s see how this goes, eh?

The Real Me

That’s the real me, ladies and gentlemen. Eighteen years old with a failed attempt at a beard and still those pudgy cheeks I’m sure my mother loves. One day they’ll be gone. But for now, that’s me. I love my glasses even though it took me about five months to get used to them. I got them in August and I don’t think I started wearing them full time until winter break. They drove my nuts. I guess because I am slightly fidgety, that’s what happens. Anyways!

I’m eighteen years old as I said. That’ll change in September, but oh well. I’m about to finish my freshman year of college majoring in biology. That’s right…I’m not like most of the people here who make their money online. I don’t want to be a stay at home kind of guy who works from his home desk. It’s a great job, I’m sure. Chow has it going for him, being the stay at home Dad and getting to really experience the growth of his daughter. I want to be a doctor hence the name of this blog. I want to be a neurologist in particular.

I’m horrible at Math and yet in this school, they require Calculus two to graduate from it with a bachelors in biology. It sucks, but such is life. The girlfriend helps me out. My girlfriend’s name is Liz and she IS a math major. Uh…I’ve been acting for five years now and I don’t think my adviser likes it very much. He asked me once, “Jacob, do you want to be a doctor or an actor.” I told him I want to be a doctor. Oh well…I’m going to do both for a while. But, biology comes first. The real me is a relatively stiff, yet laid back fellow. I can be mean, but I can be nice. I don’t know. That’s the real me. Not the MafiaMaster everyone sees on digitalpoint or earnersforum or any of that. I’m Jacob. This is the real Jacob Cohen-Donnelly.

Three people I intend on tagging for this are: Andreas Bard, David Lithman, and Ramon. Thanks everyone!
