Where Have I Been

Network, Personal Life 1 Comment »

Boy, it has been a long time since I updated this blog. And the truth is, I have no real excuse other than the fact my other blog has become a bit more important to me. Zero to Med was never really meant to make any money for me. It was meant to document my journey from nothing to something and that is what I am going to fall back on. I am going to document how things are going for me and primarily use it just to post rambling. If I don’t get any readers, that’s fine…That’s not what is important to me. What is important is for me to document what I have been doing so I can look back and see how things have been.

But, where have I been? I’ve been working primarily on DormEarning.com. I have been trying desperately to get that blog really up and running because I know that if I can get past the threshold that damages so many bloggers, I can really begin to see an increase in profits. I am still working on getting a theme for the blog and once that happens, perhaps I will find myself increasing my profits. But, that’s where things have been primarily in that respect. But, this is where I’ve been in other fields…

Microbiology and Organic Chemistry are finally coming together for me. On both of my lab exams for each of those classes, I got an A, so I am really on a roll. And on top of that, I got an A on my last Calculus quiz, so things are really looking up. For a while, I was beginning to question if I would even get into medical school. From the look of it, if I continue to keep my grades up like this, I will definitely make it into medical school. And that is definitely amazing because that is my dream. This semester has been hell, but I have to say, things are looking up. I can’t guarantee a daily post, but I will let you know how I am doing from time to time. Thanks for staying loyal to my journey from Zero to Med.

Killer Week

Personal Life 1 Comment »

What a killer week…That’s really all I can say. This week has been killer. Between my studies and my websites, my life has gone crazy. If you noticed, I have not posted a blog post in the past few days. I have been extremely busy studying for tests and preparing other things and talking with one of my science major friends about a potential project that I have been unable to get to Zero to Med. But, anyways, here’s an update on what is going on:

  • Adsense has stopped my ads from appearing. For some odd reason, all I get are public service ads because I have to verify I am who I say I am. It is really quite bizarre, I will be honest, but it is what it is.
  • I had a Calculus test and an Organic Chemistry test this week and let me tell you, my major is bloody difficult. I have a hard time getting everything into my mind, but I am sort of getting the hang of things all over again.
  • I am looking to sell ScienceChats.com. I love the forum, but it is taking too much time and it is not going anywhere. I could use the money and reinvest it into DormEarning.com and really make some good money from that. So, I think that I may sell it.

Tomorrow is Friday and that is the last day of the week. I can relax and just breathe. And since my birthday is Saturday, I am pretty excited. Nineteen years old. Isn’t it amazing that people my age are able to make a considerable amount of money online? I love it and I hope for the best for everyone. Have a good weekend. And just to clarify, the week ends for college students on Thursdays pretty much. Fridays are easy days. Anyways…Later.

My Course Load: Fall 07

Personal Life No Comments »

I thought that I would tell you guys what classes I was taking this year so you can perhaps feel a little pity for me. Okay, I really don’t want your pity, but since this blog is about my journey to hopefully get to medical school, I think it might be interesting to see the different courses that I will be taking now that I am in my upper level science courses. Last year I took the general biology and the general chemistry, that’s cool, but now we get to take a look at the more interesting classes. So, this is what I am taking.

Microbiology: Microbiology is the study of microbes, or better yet, microscopic organisms. Now, I am hesitant to say organisms because we also learn about viruses and those are not organisms (if you wish to understand why, leave a comment and I will dedicate an entire blog post about it). However, this is the study of bacteria, viruses, fungi, helminths, and all of those interesting things. It is extremely interesting, but extremely difficult.

Organic Chemistry: Organic Chemistry is the study of compounds that all have one thing in common: they contain carbon one way or another. Methane, Propane, Formaldehyde, and numerous others are all organic. There are millions. This class is fun; however, it is extremely difficult. I took a break from doing my homework now to write this and let me tell you, it is a tough course. But entertaining to say the least.

Calculus I: Now this is going to be the hardest class for me. Math is not my thing. No matter how hard I try, I really have a hard time with it. However, I am going to do as great as I can and if all goes according to plan, I will walk out of that class with an A. I need an A in it just so that I can really boost my GPA. That’s the goal for this semester. To MASTER Calculus because I will use it a lot in Physics.

U.S. History: This course is one I have to take because my school demands I have some general education courses. It is a piece of cake class. The last quiz I took in it, I got a 100, so that will be a definite easy A. Just read the book, write a paper, take a weekly quiz, ace the tests and I will be walking away with an A which will skyrocket my GPA. But, as always, we can only hope for the best.

So, that’s my course load this semester. The Math and two science courses are all four credit courses and the U.S. History is a three credit course, so that equates to fifteen credit hours a week. That’s a good number and I am excited about this semester. It is going to be busy, it will be hectic, but I have a good feeling about things and I anticipate that my earnings will only go up as I develop a better discipline over my time. But, one can only hope!

Busy Weekend

Network, Personal Life 1 Comment »

For those that don’t know, school has started for me. Classes have yet to begin, but I volunteered to be an orientation leader. That means that I will be doing a lot of work from 7:00AM until 12:00AM. As you can see, I will be working for about seventeen hours in one day, but I am alright with that. The only downfall with doing all of that work is that I will be unable to GET any website work done. I mean, my websites are going to lag, but I think it’s alright. August will be coming to an end and that’ll leave me a chance to make September amazing.

First and foremost is Dorm Earning will be getting a minimum of two posts a day. This is important because it’ll really increase traffic. Content is king and that is imperative. I am hoping that I can also get the RSS up as well as the PR to something other than 0 so I can get it some good link sales as well as some good reviews written. I intend on kicking out the middle man if this other program gets up and running. I wrote about it on my blog all about removing the middle man.

In the end, all that happens is that I will be working heavily on trying to increase the profitability of that blog. Since I am not going crazy on small content sites like I had intended at the end of last semester because it will be too much work, I have to ensure that the larger sites get even larger. I’d love to have a unique theme for Dorm Earning by the end of September, but I may not have the money. If I do, that is where my money will go without a doubt. But, in the end, what I need to do is get the site’s traffic doubled. But, this weekend I will be away, so the start of September will definitely be eventful. Let’s hope for the best!

Helping Friends Start

Personal Life 6 Comments »

One of the hardest things I think for me when I first started on the web was starting. Look, I may not make a lot of money and that’s cool, but the hardest part for me was actually getting started. I was nervous to jump into this field and I was especially nervous to make a blog. It’s one thing to content write. I did it all the time. But, when it was time to create a blog and start getting more personal, I had no idea what to write about. I mean, if I were to paraphrase a conversation I had with my friend Lithman, it would sound something like this:

Me: So, what do I talk about?
Him: Whatever you want.
Me: So, if I wanted to talk about how microbiology sucked today, I could?
Him: You talk about whatever you want, it’s a personal blog.

I think that was the hardest part for me was getting started. So, I thank David for giving me that push to really get my blog started. Now, I’m going to do the same thing. I’m helping my friend get started. She’s making a blog, has never made one before, but I told her that I would help her. She wants to make money, but, I think she understands that you need a passion for writing on a blog to make that money. Blog for fun and you’ll make cash; blog for cash and you won’t have fun.

So…In a sense, I’ve become her mentor. That’s a good feeling knowing that someone will ask me questions and ask me advice. I want to give her all the advice I can because if she succeeds, it means that I helped her. Or it means that I just suck and she took better advice, which is a big possibility. ;) To be completely honest, it really could benefit a lot of people if there were more people like David who offered help to a complete newbie like me. I was as dumb as possible about blogging. But now, I know a thing or two. Offering help is alright and that’s something a lot of people don’t really appreciate these days. We all started somewhere and rather than shunning people away, be a mentor. Offer help. So, that’s what I’m going to try and do. I’m going to help my friend create her blog and get her set up so she can really start going somewhere. Let’s hope for the best, eh?

My Top Three Favorite Movies

Personal Life 3 Comments »

I decided to keep tonight’s blog post sort of relaxed and with nothing about business. So, I thought about it and then decided that I would post a little something about me that no one really knows. And that is what my favorite movies are. And, I will also tag some people to see what their favorite movies are. So, these are my top three favorite movies and why:

  • 300: I don’t know why, but this movie is just AMAZING! Gerard Butler plays a mean Leonidas and the rest of the cast is just downright amazing. If you have not seen this movie, you are missing out and need to get the hell to the store and buy the DVD. It is downright brilliant and I might just watch it again now because it rocks so much.
  • Boondock Saints: This is that story about those two Irish twins that go around Boston killing all these mafioso. It’s a really great movie and although some of the stuff is weird like the gunshots (sometimes), it’s just downright brilliant. I already watched it once tonight and it’s just one of those really awesome movies. It has a kick ass cast to go along with it, so I highly recommend it.
  • Star Wars: As much of a nerd as that makes me, I can’t help it. I am a Star Wars geek and I have been for all my life. I own some comic books and I own all the movies. I can’t pick one, so Star Wars just goes under this list as my favorite all together. I don’t have to tell people to watch these since so many people love them. But they really are awesome. And if you watch it, it has a lot of Mythological stuff in it that people would never understand. But, thinking about that could steal from the movie.

The Godfather was close to ranking up there, but since it was only the top three, I couldn’t fit it up there. I have to say that those three movies are just some of my many favorites, but they are my top three favorites. Now, to spread a little link love and to see what others love, let’s send a tag to: Lithman, Andreas Bard, King Nomar.

Six Flags Great Adventure

Personal Life 1 Comment »

That’s right ladies and gentlemen…For those in the North Eastern United States, you have probably heard of Six Flags Great Adventure. It’s in New Jersey and that is where I will be going tomorrow. For those that don’t know, it is one of the BEST amusement parks in the world and has some of the tallest (actually, the tallest) roller coasters in the world. Now, you may be wondering: “Jacob, what is the tallest roller coaster in the world?” That answer, my wonderful readers, is very simple.

In 2005, Kinga Da opened up. Now, how tall is tall? Is 456 feet tall? You bet! That’s a tall damn roller coaster. What about going down 90 degree declines? For those that don’t know, 90 degrees is perpendicular to the ground. That’s straight down. Basically, it provides a big of free floating air time. That sounds great, huh? That’s because it is. Now, I’ve never been on it before, but let me tell you, I cannot wait to go. I cannot wait to go on Nitro, Superman, Batman, etc, etc, etc.

Now, the only down fall is that this is one day where I cannot work. But that’s alright, I intend on using time stamps to get the work done for me. Since I am working on a four part piece for Dorm Earning, the time stamps will be good to get them out there for individuals and it’s easier for me to write them. Multiple pieces for one big theme is much easier to write than trying to think something new up every single night. Anyways…That’s what the battle plan is for me. So tomorrow, at around 1:00, when you’re all stuck inside, I’ll be on a roller coaster. :P HAVE FUN!

Going on Vacation

Personal Life 4 Comments »

Now that I am out of my job (since my last day was today), I figured it’d be cool to go away for a few days. I’m going upstate some more to this town called Ithaca. They’ve got a lot of cool things there and I always wanted to go, so I figured why the hell not, you know? However, this does bring a small problem…What if the hotel doesn’t have internet? I’m going with my Father and he wasn’t sure if they had internet. How am I possibly going to do my blog posts? Well, I came to a realization…

I’ll time stamp them. So, if all goes according to plan, Thursday through Saturday’s posts will be written at another time, probably tomorrow. I will be doing that for Dorm Earning as well simply because if there is no internet, I cannot afford not to do my blog posts. For those that ever go on vacation, remember that it is important to update your blog, so using a time stamp is a really good idea. Even if you don’t know what to write about, it’s good to have a few blog posts there waiting just in case something goes wrong. So, I will be using it for the first time this week and if it works out well, perhaps I will use it more often when school starts. We’ll see.

Short Lived Job

Personal Life No Comments »

Yeah, I definitely did not last that long at my job. As much as I wanted to work, it wasn’t for me and since I nearly sliced my fingers off about three times (I work in a deli), I figured it was time for me to go. A doctor needs his fingers, so I think that making 300K a year is a bit more important than $8.00 an hour. Anyways…Now that my job is over, it is time that I look towards some other ways to make some money to supplement for the loss of a weekly income. It was nice having the money, but I don’t think the job is for me.

I am looking to do some content writing again. As you may know from how I write on my blog, I am rather talented with the English language. Granted, I am not a flawless writer; however, that does not take away from the fact that I can write well. And I can research well due to my education and college needs. Now…Just because you contact me does not mean that I am going to write the articles for you. They need to be on something that I find mildly interesting because I do have some slight ADD. If I cannot find the articles interesting, I won’t be able to do them, so I just turn them down indefinitely if it is hard to write.

Now…I am sure the biggest thing on your mind is the price and the time it takes to write the articles. I charge 2.5 cents a word. Yes, that is $12.50 for a 500 word article, but you know that you are getting an article that is written by someone who can write. I’m not some cheap author who crams out ten articles in one day; if that’s what you’re looking for, don’t contact me for articles. I do take my time and do try and write them like I would if they were a school paper. Now…For the time length it takes for me to write these articles. I get my work done by the deadline; however, if your deadline is unacceptable in my book, I will either give you a date that I can get them done or just say outright that I can’t do them. If you are interested in trying my service (and I have had a reader of my blog who was pleased with my writing), please send me an e-mail to: jacob@zerotomed.com. Yeah, I finally set up my own e-mail! Anyways…Thanks a lot.

My Return

Personal Life 2 Comments »

And let me tell you, a return it is…It’s time like this that I wish I was Lithman. He lives in Florida as a lot of you most likely know and since he lives in a sunny state, I am sure that he has developed a permanent tan of sorts. If you don’t understand what I am talking about, let me explain. I AM SUN BURNT! And let me tell you, lobsters are lighter than I am. Now, I have a high pain tolerance, so it doesn’t really hurt, but it sucks because I get hot and cold like crazy because of it. I don’t know…It just sucks because I start my job Thursday and I don’t want to look like a lobster when at work…But, I should be better by then.

In other news, I was able to get some work done last night even though I was away. My Mom has a blackberry and I was able to write an article for this site I participate on (I get adsense coverage on articles that I wrote) and that should net me some money once traffic increases to the site. It was nice, though, to get away and once this sun burn mellows out a bit, I’ll have the mental capacity to focus again on what needs to get done and not on the fact that lobsters are lighter than me. Ah well…Like I said about my leaving, everyone should take a vacation. It really is great. Expect some real posts start tomorrow…Sorry they’ve been all short and stuff, but I have been so busy recently.
