I’ve been asking my a question lately and that one is: “when is the right time to expand a network?” When I titled this, I thought a lot about Genghis Khan who united all of the tribes of Mongolia and then invaded all around him, creating the single largest land mass empire. The only empire to beat his in size was the British, but they had land EVERYWHERE in the world. But, the reason that I say I think about that is the thought that comes to mind is: when is the right time to expand a network? When should you take your small number of sites and suddenly expand?

Genghis Khan expanded fast. He sent Generals down to invade China and he sent Generals west to conquer towards Europe. And he conquered everything. There was a saying. When one Mongolian would fall, two more would rise from hell to take his place. There were just so many of them. But, Genghis expanded fast and hard, taking everything in his place. When should we become Genghis? When should we go from our small websites, or even our one great website (the tribes of Mongolia) and then expand out and start to gobble up everything around us?

I ask this because I watch as people expand their networks too fast too soon. They don’t have enough control over their main sites and yet they are trying to take everything else around them. If you become too ambitious, you will fall. I am wondering if I have reached a point where I can expand more. I know that I bought another site, but I am already working on all of those other ideas. I finished the plot for the role play game mentioned in my post about a few things in the works. It’ll make a good game, I know it. But, when is too far? I think I’ve reached a point where I can expand and be alright. I update my blogs everyday and my forum is growing. I think I’ve reached a point where other sites can come in. So, maybe it is my time to be Khan, huh? :p

It takes a lot out of me to write these blog posts. Buy me a beer to cool me off!
