It is obvious that for any site to get big and powerful, it needs to acquire an extremely large number of back links.  Look at Google and they have loads of back links.  Look at MSN and you have the same thing.  Look at all of these large websites and you will see that they have loads of back links.  What this means is that back links are so very important for your website.   Back links will help you increase your page rank and increase the amount of traffic that comes to your website.  And we all know that traffic is amazing for a website.  But, what are some methods of getting back links?

  1. Link to someone else.  The thing that is interesting is that if I were to blog to some random blog, such as JohnChow.com, he might give a back link back to me.  Now, the thing that you need to remember is that you can’t just randomly throw back links in because sometimes, you won’t get a back link back.  I don’t expect one from John Chow, but I just used him as an example.
  2. Purchase them.  Google is against this, but then again, there is some controversy in that because rumor has it, Google is selling links for $10,000 a year.  But, purchasing links can really help if you get a few high PR links and keep them for the next set of update.  It can really be beneficial.
  3. Offer links for links.  This is the opposite of number one.  Rather than initiating it, make it known that if someone links to you, you will link to them.  This helps if your site is bigger than theirs because they will willingly link to your site.  It can help because if you get loads of PR0 back links, sooner or later they will grow to PR1, 2, 3,4 and even higher.  Then…Your PR goes up too.
  4. Submit to directories.  People underestimate the power of these.  I like to submit to new ones that are offering free submissions.  It might be PR0 at the moment, but in six months, that might go to PR4 or PR6 or something and when they start charging, I’ll have already submitted and that means some PR for me.
  5. Submit articles to article directories.  You’d be surprised the number of times your article appears on different sites.  So long as the people keep your links intact, you could start getting some pretty nice links back to your site.  They could be PR0 or PR4 or PR2 or what ever.  But they are link backs and even PR0 are links and they help.

These are just a few different methods that work.  I probably should do a little of number five for SciFreak.  If I were to write one article about science and submit it to directories, I might be able to get a series of back links.  All I know is that back links are really important for any site.  If you can get a good amount of them, you could expect to see your traffic increase, your page rank increase and your income increase as well.  Get back links and watch your site grow.

It takes a lot out of me to write these blog posts. Buy me a beer to cool me off!
